Welcome to the new year! January offers a fresh start for a new year, and I’m grateful for the energy our students, staff, and families bring to our schools each day. As we begin the spring semester, our focus remains on strong instruction, supportive campuses, and keeping students engaged and learning. We’re also prioritizing stronger communication with our community by sharing more of the great work happening in our classrooms and programs and highlighting student and teacher successes through our newsletters and social media. In addition, we’re looking ahead to an exciting spring as we begin the next steps of our bond projects, work that will strengthen our facilities and learning environments for years to come. Thank you for your continued partnership, and together, let's make 2026 a memorable year for our students!

School Board Recognition Month |
|
|
Somerville ISD joins many other districts across Texas in recognizing our Board of Trustees. Their commitment to our district allows our teachers and staff to provide the best educational experience possible to our students. |

After the community passed the bond in May of 2025, our team has been working feverishly to hammer out details within the design-build process. This has been a very intense period of planning since the bond passed in May, and it is the part of the project where very little of the work is noticed by the public.
So where are we in the process? The projects for the 2025 Bond will be carried out in various phases due to the complexity of work being done while school is in session.
Phase I: Final schematic designs are scheduled to be completed late January or early February. Phase I of the bond project includes the asbestos abatement and demolition of various buildings and structures throughout the district. This phase of the project will also include building the new high school campus (including the new CTE center), remodeling the current high school to become the new junior high campus, and remodeling and construction of the current high school gymnasium.
|
|
|
Timeline: Bid proposals for asbestos abatement and demolition went out in December. Construction bids for the projects covered in Phase I will begin to go out in early February.
Many of our buildings, outside of the new elementary campus, were built when asbestos was commonly used in building products. As such, asbestos abatement will hopefully begin this February and March, and certain buildings, such as the old junior high building and other recently acquired buildings, will be demolished shortly thereafter.
Remodeling and construction of the high school gymnasium are expected to begin in March. As the major part of the planning process begins to narrow down, things will begin to change very rapidly throughout the district. Everything we are doing is carefully planned to cause the least interference with student learning.
So buckle your seatbelts, it is going to be a very busy spring here at Somerville ISD! If you have any questions about our 2025 bond project, please feel free to reach out to Eric Holton, Superintendent, Somerville ISD, at 979-596-2153 to set up a meeting or to discuss over the phone. |

Javen Henderson, Class of 2022 |
We were thrilled to be visited last week by Javen Henderson, who recently completed Recruit Training to become a United States Marine! Henderson visited with several of our students on campus to share more information about his experience joining the USMC.
A lifelong Somerville ISD student, Mr. Henderson's embodies the Yegua spirit. His story is an inspiration to all of us at Somerville ISD. We are forever thankful for his service to our nation - OORAH!! |

Somerville Independent School District is proud to recognize and celebrate the success of Somerville High School graduates through our Alumni Spotlight series. This initiative highlights former students who are making a positive impact through their careers, education, military service, entrepreneurship, volunteer work, and leadership within their families and communities.
Our goal is to honor the legacy of Somerville High School, promote Yegua pride, and provide real-world inspiration for current students by sharing the many paths our graduates pursue. Alumni and community members are invited to nominate SHS graduates to be featured throughout the year.
For nominations, please email: bpeck@somervilleisd.org |
